Best keeper you ever saw play live - and why?
C'mon, be honest - unpopular views more than welcome.

Mine is not that unpopular, but I would say that Big Neville Southall was above any other keeper I watched across a number of years. Including Peter Schmeichel, who was quite brilliant.

Why? Every time I saw him play, Nev would produce at least one save in the game that I genuinely thought was "world class". Did it every single time. Schmeichel runs him a close second. Both were better than Shilton, who was still very, very good.

Was too young to see Banks play live. Had the good fortune to watch Buffon a few times in Italy, but I feel that's me cheating a bit. That guy was top class.

But Nev every time.

Thoughts, ladies and gents...

Bats-man Joel Bats , a great keeper and decent fella loved by the home fans at PSG for many seasons in the 80s-90s, saw him play hundreds of times and rarely a howler if any. Beat cancer as well and released a hilariously bad album.and was man of the match in that cracker against brazil in the world cup

Lev Yashin and Gordon Banks for me

Gordan Banks.

Not for his save against Hurst (I was there, but mistimed my jump to see Hurst's penalty hit the back of the net, so I didn't see the save instead - just saw the back of loads of people who did jump at the right time)

But he made plenty of other saves against us.

No not at the ground live but on the TV live, does that count?

No. But given that it is Yashin, and the big fella couldn't leave the USSR, I'll give you it!

Have seen footage of him and he looked absolutely incredible.

Best performance I saw live was Ludo away to Sheff Weds about 1990, game ended 1-1 and we should have been 6-0 down at half time

He did leave the USSR for the '58 '62 and '66 world cups, the one held in England was when I became aware of him

Oh and he's the only keeper to win the Ballon d'Or

Oh yeah, World Cups aside, of course.

Would love to have seen the guy play live. He looked well ahead of his years, in terms of his physicality and agility - same as Banks.

Also, to be blunt, probably the coolest looking goalkeeper in that black kit with the baggy black cap. That's a proper look, that. And no need for a dodgy David James-style barnet!

Steady - I was at that game, too. And you're right: Ludo didn't just keep us in it - we had no right to be in it. He was incredible that day.

Banks. Probably the one area in the game where era's dont really matter. He had tremendous agility and was stupidly brave when he had to be.

He was that good that i can forgive him for being the first person to break my heart when he saved Sir Geoff's penalty in the lge cup semi in 72.

As a nine year old my dad took me to see England play the Rest of the World at Wembley in '63.
So I was privileged to see the two greatest keepers in my lifetime on the pitch at the same time - Banks and Yashin.
